Hollywood icon Sharon Stone believes the Sept. 11, 2001 bombings of the United States should not have been used as a pretext to launch the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, according to comments published Monday in a Saudi-owned newspaper. The actress said in an interview with the Al Hayat daily that she fails to understand how the American public supported those wars to start with, only to denounce their fallout later. She also bemoaned what she called America’s decision to ignore the deaths of so many Iraqis.”When we choose war, we should understand that we choose murder, bloodletting and torture,” Stone told the newspaper.”I feel at great pain when the spotlight is on the death of 4,000 American soldiers, while 600,000 Iraqi deaths are ignored . . . War is not a movie, it is a tragedy of dead bodies, victims, the disabled, orphans, widows and the displaced.”Stone spoke in English and her comments were translated and published in Arabic. An English transcript of the interview was not available.Al Hayat published only excerpts of the interview, done in December when Stone attended the fourth Dubai International Film Festival in the United Arab Emirates. The paper’s sister publication, Leha, was to publish the entire interview Wednesday.Stone said she came to the region seeking answers for herself because the U.S. media have failed to provide Americans with the truth and have distorted it instead.

Back in 2006, Sharon Stone made a rather *interesting* statement about Hillary Clinton. Stone described Hillary’s “sexual power” and how she was too sexy to run.”I think Hillary Clinton is fantastic. But I think it is too soon for her to run. This may sound odd, but a woman should be past her sexuality when she runs. Hillary still has sexual power, and I don’t think people will accept that. It’s too threatening.”What?? While I do think that plenty of people are intimidated by Hillary, or may agree with the fact that she shouldn’t be running for President, I highly doubt it’s because of her sexual power. I think one of the things that is quite positive for Hillary is that she doesn’t constantly have people talking about how damn sexy she is all the time. [Source]

Rumors have been running rampant for years that Sharon Stone is, well, not the easiest person to work with. But Tom Arnold took the crowded Hennessy Lounge at Sundance by surprise when he came right out with his feelings toward the “Basic Instinct” siren.Pop Tarts was told that “The Final Season” star spotted a picture of Stone on the wall and immediately started screaming: “She is a crazy, psycho b—h! I hate her!” (According to our spy, Tom went on for at least 15 minutes in front of the packed lounge about how he would never work with Stone again. EVER.)Mr. Arnold, didn’t your mama ever tell you that “hate” is a very strong word and should be used only with caution? The two star together in the Sundance film “The Year of Getting to Know Us” — and we’re wondering how well those two got to know each other on set … ouch. [Source]

Sharon Stone’s legs are staying crossed. The 49-year-old actress, who shot to fame as a sexually ravenous serial killer in Basic Instinct, tells Sun Media she almost quit acting because she was sick of playing vamps and vixens. “I was just like, ‘I don’t think I can do any more Catwoman movies,’ ” she says, referring to the notorious flop in which she swapped scratch marks with a whip-cracking Halle Berry. “I felt like I’d been kind of pigeonholed. I couldn’t really work as a character actress because my choices were so diminished. And so I worked with my agent and said, ‘I just want to work in independent films because I think I can get hired for character parts.’ “Every movie I worked on I had to play some sex-symbol part. I felt now that I’m approaching 50, how am I going to get to express myself if I don’t do this? So that’s finally really starting to turn around.”

Hollywood star Sharon Stone appears to be losing her Basic Instinct when it comes to fashion with her sixties-style make-up. The Casino actress battered her Twiggy-inspired smoky-eyes at the premiere of her latest film The Year of Getting to Know Us at the Sundance Film Festival last night. Less than two months away from her 50th birthday, it seemed the actress’ age was finally catching up with her. Stone mismatched her dramatic smoky-eyed make up with her unflattering blonde flicked crop with her dressed-down ensemble. Following the casual dress code of Sundance in freezing Park City, Utah, where temperatures have dropped to -10 Celsius, Stone’s glamorous make-up looked out of place with her slate denim jacket, black leggings and ankle boots. Stone joined her co-stars Jimmy Fallon, Tom Arnold and Illeana Douglas and director Patrick Sisam at the screening of their new comedy about a commitment-phobic man who reunites with his estranged father. During her time at Sundance, Stone will have to be on her guard from activists from animal rights charity PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), who have gathered outside screenings in a bid to shame fur-wearing celebrities. Stone’s love for fur has been well-documented and despite media pressure, the actress continues to wear her beloved animal pelts. The actress’ next movie project Dirty Tricks, set during U.S. President Nixon’s rule, has been delayed due to the ongoing writer’s strike in Hollywood. During her time off, Stone has been reportedly romancing Miami restaurateur Shareef Malnik, as well as caring for her three adopted children, Roan, seven; Laird, two; and Quinn, 19 months. At the bottom of the ski lift in downtown Park City is a two-storey-high half-tent, half-building, which serves as a party centre for the Sundance Film Festival. A couple dozen people in winter clothes are sipping coffee, slapping each other on the backs and kissing hello. The event is a casual reunion of the cast and crew of the film The Year of Getting to Know Us, before it premiered last night. In the crowd are actors Jimmy Fallon, Tom Arnold and Illeana Douglas, three of the stars of the comic-edged drama. The other stars, Lucy Liu and Sharon Stone, aren’t here yet.The film’s Canadian co-writer and director, Patrick Sisam, is also awaiting friends and family from Toronto, various parts of the United States and as far away as London and Dublin for his first feature film, and although he says he’s getting nervous, it doesn’t show. He’s one of those people who seems to know almost everyone, but, contrary to the stereotype of a hired gun who has worked it out in the trenches of commercial advertising for the past few years, he comes across as low-key and introspective. As we’re sitting on a bench upstairs in the tent building, Fallon comes by to chat briefly: “This is a very talented guy,” he says of Sisam.
