Bette Midler and Sharon Stone are starring in a movie version of the play “The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife.”

Andy Fickman, whose credits include “Parental Guidance” and “Game Plan,” is attached to direct. IMR will commence foreign sales at the European Film Market at the Berlin Film Festival. CAA will represent the U.S. and Canada rights.

Robert Cort (“Runaway Bride”) and Daryl Roth, who’s a producer on Broadway’s “Tale of the Allergist’s Wife,” will produce with Jeffrey Melnick as executive producer.

“The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife” is an odd-couple comedy in which will Midler play Marjorie Taub, an upper-middle-class, Upper-West-Sider in the midst of a volcanic later-life crisis. Her loving husband, an acclaimed allergist to the homeless, tries in vain to help, but everything changes with the arrival in New York of Marjorie’s fascinating and mysterious childhood friend Lee, played by Stone. As Lee becomes the Taubs’ permanent houseguest, Marjorie’s depression magically lifts — but Lee has a secret agenda.

Midler been nominated for two Academy Awards for her performances in “For the Boys” and “The Rose.” She recently took home the best actress in a musical prize at this year’s Tony Awards for “Hello, Dolly!” Midler will be reuniting with Fickman for the first time since starring in “Parental Guidance” in 2012.

Stone won a Golden Globe for her role in Martin Scorsese’s “Casino,” which also earned her an Oscar nomination. She nabbed a Primetime Emmy Award for her role in “The Practice.”

Midler is represented by CAA, David Steinberg Entertainment, and Larry Shire. Stone is also repped by CAA and Paul Nelson at Mosaic. Fickman is represented by WME and Daniel Rappaport at Management 360. [Source]

Steven Paul’s SP Releasing has set an October release in the U.S. for ESX Entertainment’s Sharon Stone drama “Running Wild,” Variety has learned exclusively.

“Wilfred” star Dorian Brown and “Sons of Anarchy’s” Tommy Flanagan are also starring with Brown playing a widow who saves her ranch by working with convicts to rehabilitate a herd of wild horses that have wandered onto her property. Flanagan portrays the leader of the convicts, and Stone plays the villain.

Alex Ranarivelo (“The Dog Lover”) directed “Running Wild” from a script by Brian Rudick and co-producer Christina Moore. The film is financed and produced by ESX’s Forrest Lucas and Ali Afshar.

The pic is scheduled for release by SP Releasing and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment in October with an initial theatrical opening of at least 30 cities in the United States and a simultaneous VOD day-and-date launch.

Forrest Lucas and Ali Afshar’s ESX Entertainment is supported by Protect The Harvest in a partnership to produce projects with budgets under $10 million with a goal of telling inspirational stories that support the American way of life and the American dream. ESX has completed production on five movies.

SP Releasing’s upcoming slate includes “JL Ranch,” starring Jon Voight, Melanie Griffith, and James Caan; and “The Dog Lover,” starring James Remar, Lea Thompson, Jayson Blair and Allison Paige.

Paul is currently producing the Scarlett Johansson-starrer “Ghost in the Shell.” He has struck multiple film production deals in the last year in the U.S., China and Thailand for “Expendables 4” and “Security.” [Source]

Zac Efron, Seth Rogen, Josh Hutcherson, Jacki Weaver, Hannibal Buress, Ari Graynor and Andrew Santino are also on board. James Franco is also writing and directing.

The film takes an in-depth look at the making of the 2003 cult classic “The Room” — hailed by many as one of the worst movies ever made. James Franco will play director Tommy Wiseau while Dave Franco will play Greg Sestero, who co-starred in the film. Theaters across the nation still play the pic in midnight showings.

Stone will play a Hollywood agent. Production is currently under way in Los Angeles.

The pic is written by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber based on the book by Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell.. Good Universe is producing “Disaster Artist” along with James Franco and Point Grey Pictures principals Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

Spain’s Gondola Films has boarded “What About Love,” a romantic drama starring Sharon Stone, Andy Garcia and Marielle Jaffe.

Spanish cast includes Jose Coronado (“The Body”) and Miguel Angel Munoz (“Lope”). Germany’s Klaus Menzel (“Fascination”) directs and exec produces via Germany’s Quality Films.

Garcia plays an ambitious senator who travels to Europe with his wife (Stone) when their daughter (Jaffe) is hospitalized after an accident with her boyfriend (Munoz). The experience forces them to re-evaluate their rocky marriage.

Coronado plays the b.f.’s father, who has a different take on love and life to Garcia, as do the children.

“The generational conflict opens the film up to wider audiences,” said Gondola’s Sara Fijo.

“Love” is penned by the helmer and Douglas Day Stewart (“An Officer and a Gentleman”), and lensed by German d.p. Reinhart Peschke (“Captain Abu Raed”).

Having shot in Barcelona, Washington, D.C., Venice and Romania, “Love” is in post-production.

“Love’s” producers aim to close a deal with an international sales agent at the American Film Market, which kicks off Oct. 31. [Source]

It’s a bad week for police detectives on DVD shelves.

Not only is Harvey Keitel’s “Bad Lieutenant” being re-released, July 28 also brings the direct-to-DVD debut of “Streets of Blood.” Both hyperviolent films feature cops as crooked as the criminals, and neither has a compelling narrative.

“Streets of Blood,” filmed predominantly in Shreveport in 2008, is set in New Orleans six months after Hurricane Katrina.

Second-unit footage of a devastated New Orleans is used to establish setting throughout the film, but this footage rarely matches the cuts to the film’s primary locations. In one example, a car drives down a French Quarter street; the camera angle reverses, and the car magically is on an obviously different street, presumably in Shreveport.

Here’s some more Hollywood to Bollywood news for your eyes and ears! Seems like the next Hollywood star to go on a Bollywood spin is none other than, ‘Basic Instinct’ star, Sharon Stone! Reportedly the 51 year old Sharon (damn she still looks good for her age!) has agreed to do a film titled, ‘Lost Love’ and will be directed by Tapan Saha. Word is that her role is loosely based on the character of Maxine from Jhumpa Lahiri’s novel, ‘The Namesake.’ If you recall, Maxine is the Caucasian girl that is the main character Gogol dated before he married a Bengali girl. The film is supposed to be shot in India.Sharon will reportedly be in Mumbai and Kolkata for the shoot which will supposedly be produced by either Lighthouse or Lionsgate productions along with Sampurn Entertainment, all of which are huge production houses in Hollywood. The director Tapan Saha, will be working with Hollywood script writers as well. As for Sharon’s character, she will be playing the daughter of a rich business family that settled in Los Angeles. She gets dumped by her Indian boyfriend and the film is about her journey to India and how she tries to find her love. Plus we hear Sharon is very excited about filming in Mumbai! Sounds like fun to us too!So the question is – what do you think about Sharon Stone shooting a film in India? After all, it isn’t really a Bollywood project, rather a Hollywood film shot in India. But it does get us thinking about who will be playing Sharon Stone’s ex-boyfriend that she’s chasing after in India? Hmm… may we suggest a Bollywood star perhaps? [Source]
