Sharon Stone is set to return to her criminal Casino ways with Sunny, a dark comedic thriller in which the Oscar nominee will play the eponymous lead, a drug kingpin, mob mistress and devoted single mother.

Norwegian filmmaker Eva Sorhaug (90 Minutes) is attached to direct Sunny as her English-language debut. The plot, which sees Stone’s character going through an adrenaline-fueled 24 hours as she tries to clean up and get out of town before the local mob boss discovers her dysfunctional family’s devastating secret, is based on Sorhaug’s original idea. William Day Frank penned the script.

Lost City — the group behind Drake Doremus’ latest feature Newness starring Nicholas Hoult and Laia Costa — will finance and produce Sunny. David Garrett’s Mister Smith Entertainment is handling international sales and will launch the project next week at the American Film Market. CAA and Endeavor Content will oversee U.S. sales on the film.

“Sharon Stone is the perfect actress to bring Sunny and all of her complexities to the screen,” said Sorhaug. “Her effortless ability to play strong, sexy women will take this fierce female character to the next level.”

Best known for her iconic role in Paul Verhoeven’s 1992 noir thriller Basic Instinct, Stone received critical kudos for her turn as a gangster moll in Martin Scorsese’s Casino (2006). The performance earned her a Golden Globe award for best actress as well as an Oscar nomination. The actress will next be seen alongside James Franco, Zoey Deutch and Alison Brie in Franco’s The Disaster Artist, and in Mosaic, a six-part limited series from Steven Soderbergh for HBO. [Source]

Sharon Stone, Tony Goldwyn and Ellen Burstyn have signed up to star in A Little Something for Your Birthday, a coming-of-age comedy to be directed by Susan Walter from her own script that made it onto the 2008 Black List.

Production on the project is se to begin in early October, with Stone set to play a woman struggling to escape the clutches of her overbearing, co-dependent mother, played by Burstyn, recently seen in House of Cards as Claire Underwood’s (Robin Wright) icy mom Elizabeth Hale. Meanwhile, Goldwyn — Scandal‘s President Fitzgerald Grant III — arrives on the scene as a sexy, sophisticated attorney who captures her heart.

Rob Carliner, Eric Brenner, Gary Preisler and Matthew Brady through his MRB Productions will produce, with Cinetel Films repping worldwide rights. Cinetel’s Stephen Gary and Jody Cipriano will introduce the project to buyers at the American Film Market in November.

Stone is repped by Chuck Binder of Binder and Associates; Tony Goldwyn is with CAA, Untitled and Schreck Rose Dapello & Adams; and Ellen Burstyn is handled by ICM and MGMT Management. Walter is repped by the Gersh Agency and attorney Alex Kohner.

A Little Something for Your Birthday was first prepped back in 2009 as a co-production between Overture Films and Anonymous Content, with Michael Engler attached to direct. [Source]

Due to the ageism that exists for female actresses in Hollywood, we haven’t seen much of Sharon Stone in the more popular movies of the past decade. In the past 10 years she’s had parts in Alpha Dog, Bobby, Lovelace, Fading Gigolo and that awful Basic Instinct sequel in 2006. Stone even starred in her own series called Agent X on TNT in 2015, which has since been canceled. However, a career boost might be in her future after a certain comic book movie studio gives her a role.

While appearing as a guest on The Late Late Show with James Corden (via local news affiliate WBT, brought to our attention by ComingSoon.net), the Basic Instinct star revealed that she will have a role in an upcoming Marvel Studios movie. And the way she worded this revelation makes us think that it will be for the upcoming sequel Ant-Man and The Wasp. Find out more below.

Here’s what Sharon Stone told James Cordn on his show when asked if she would consider doing a superhero movie:

“I am going to do a Marvel movie. I’m just doing a wee part in a Marvel movie, upcoming, and I can’t tell, because you know, you have to sign confidentiality agreements. But I’m going to do a wee part in a Marvel movie now. That’s it.”

Notice how she specifically say a “wee part” twice? The Ant-Man franchise certainly has a lot to do with size, specifically superheroes who are small. But who would Stone play? How about Hank Pym’s wife and Hope Van Dyne’s mother, Janet Van Dyne?

Sharon Stone has rounded out the cast of James and Dave Franco’s New Line comedy “The Disaster Artist,” sources tell Variety.

Zac Efron, Seth Rogen, Josh Hutcherson, Jacki Weaver, Hannibal Buress, Ari Graynor and Andrew Santino are also on board. James Franco is also writing and directing.

The film takes an in-depth look at the making of the 2003 cult classic “The Room” — hailed by many as one of the worst movies ever made. James Franco will play director Tommy Wiseau while Dave Franco will play Greg Sestero, who co-starred in the film. Theaters across the nation still play the pic in midnight showings.

Stone will play a Hollywood agent. Production is currently under way in Los Angeles.

The pic is written by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber based on the book by Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell.. Good Universe is producing “Disaster Artist” along with James Franco and Point Grey Pictures principals Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

Stone starred on TNT’s just-canceled action series Agent X and has the indie drama “Running Wild” in post. She is repped by Gersh and Binder & Associates. [Source]

Oscar-winning filmmaker Steven Soderbergh quietly has put together Mosaic, a movie starring Sharon Stone, for HBO. No one is confirming details on the secret project, but I hear that Mosaic is described as an experimental film which has a tie-in with an app that would help viewers determine its ending. Among other rumored to be starring is Garrett Hedlund. In a carefully crafted statement to Deadline, Soderbergh appears to be alluding to the innovative/interactive nature of his project.

“I believe the good people at HBO are genuinely enthusiastic about Mosaic for two reasons: first, it represents a fresh way of experiencing a story and sharing that experience with others; second, it will require a new Emmy category, and we will be the only eligible nominee,” he said.

Filming on Mosaic is slated to begin next month in Utah. Soderbergh, who is known for taking artistic risks on the feature side, won two Emmys for directing and producing HBO’s Behind The Candelabra and earned another nomination for directing the pilot for his Cinemax series The Knick.

Sharon Stone will star in the drama “Running Wild” for Forrest Lucas and Ali Afshar’s newly launched ESX Entertainment.

Alex Ranarivelo (“The Wrong Side of Right”) is directing the film from a script by Christina Moore and Brian Rudnick.

Stone will portray the villain in “Running Wild,” which centers on a widow who saves her ranch by working with convicts to rehabilitate a herd of wild horses that wandered onto her property. The role of the widow will be cast shortly.

“Running Wild” is financed and being produced by ESX Entertainment, with Lucas and Afshar serving as producers. Christina Moore is co-producer.

The movie is part of the company’s goal of telling inspirational stories that support the American way of life and the American dream. Principal photography will commence later this week in Napa, Calif.
